What is BPA?
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a core chemical used to make polycarbonate plastic. Polycarbonate plastic is extremely popular due to its durable nature and light weight and you’ll find a number of everyday household products like bottles and reusable food containers are made from this material.
Why is BPA Dangerous?
The chemical nature of BPA means that when heated small amounts leak into our system and this may interrupt our natural hormone balance. Various studies have identified a number of adverse health reactions as a result of this BPA leakage including neurological trauma, behavioural issues and reproductive harm.
FACT: 93% of Americans tested positive to BPA in their urine
How can you Avoid BPA?
Firstly, read the packaging! Generally products that contain BPA will have the number 7 indented on them somewhere. This number represents the plastic type and recycling requirements. Avoid products that don’t have a number on them anywhere.
You will generally find BPA in the following products:
• Food cans
• Polycarbonate tableware
• Food storage containers
• Water bottles
• Baby bottles
• Sipper cups
• Toddler cutlery, plates & bowls
